Description
This is an in-flight image of a red breasted nuthatch taken in the backyard in northern Minnesota. We have an old snag placed next to the bird feeder that can be seen outside the kitchen window. These guys like to take a seed and place it in one of the cracks of the snag. They proceed to eat the seed bit by bit while it is lodged in the crack. Pretty doggone ingenious on their part! I've read that's the reason for their name, "nuthatch". The granddaughters enjoy watching this kind of behavior. There is so much a person can learn from nature if they take the time to do so!
