Artist's Description
I particularly like this image because this little fella is using his tail feathers as a brace to push off against the crab apples. I see woodpeckers using their tail feathers as a brace when on a feeder or the side of a tree but this is the first time I've seen a chickadee do this. This image was taken in my backyard.
About Gerry Sibell
Thanks for stopping by. A retired educator, my main focus since retirement has been becoming more serious about photography. My wife and I live in northern Minnesota. Our favorite place to visit and photograph is Yellowstone National Park. My project for the past ten years has been photographing small birds in flight. The most frustrating endeavor I have ever attempted but also the most rewarding. Each day, it seems like a new problem has to be solved with this very difficult kind of photography! What a wonderful season of life, to have the opportunity to pursue your love for photography. Your images are an amazing capture of a special moment in time - each one different and beautiful. This one of a bird putting on the "skids" is exceptional. Love your work, Gerry, and I'm really looking forward to exploring your galleries.
