Description
This image was taken at the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota. Grizzer succeeded Shadow as the alpha male. His demeanor was such that he didn't put down challenges hard enough from Denali, a younger wolf. Grizzer ended up being hurt quite bad and his sister, Maya, had to be euthanized from injuries suffered during challenges from the younger wolves. Grizzer was put into retirement for his own safety.
I will miss not being able to photograph Grizzer. He was such a magnificent specimen of a wolf.
