Description
Most years, we get a small flock of redpolls coming to the feeders in the winter. These birds come from the far north, the boreal and taiga regions. They like thistle and sunflower seeds. This year, they have been coming and going during the day. Other years, they park themselves at the feeder all day and decimate the thistle bags!
They are an extremely hardy bird. They can withstand very cold temperatures. I read somewhere that scientists have put them in a freezer to see how much cold they can take before freezing to death. Sounds very cruel to me. Maybe they should put the scientists in the freezer!

Having just taken dozens of pretty bad Redpoll photos this weekend, I can appreciate the tremendous skill you have! And your comment about the scientists had me cheering. I agree wholeheartedly!
Gerry Sibell replied:
Thanks Doris! I'll bet they'd think twice if they had to climb in with the birds.
