Description
This image was taken at Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary in Orr, Minnesota. These two siblings are different colors but this is not unusual. The color phase may or may not change as the bears get older. Also, they could be from different fathers. A little known fact is that a sow (female) can be impregnated by two different boars (males). More than one egg is fertilized. Another interesting fact is if the mother is not in good condition or food is scace, the egg(s) will self abort. It is nature's way of protecting the mother. What fascinating animals!

Thanks, Doris! The volunteers at the Shute Wildlife Sanctuary give very informative talks. I have learned a ton from them over the years.
