Artist's Description

This is an image of a pine siskin taken in the backyard. Pine siskins are a member of the finch family. They like to travel with their cousins, the American goldfinches in the spring and fall. In the winter, we will see them with the redpolls at the thistle socks. When perched, they look quite drab. Since capturing these little guys in flight, it is amazing to see just how striking they really are with the yellows showing. I was happy to get this image with the full wing spread and especially, the tail feathers in full splayed mode.

About Gerry Sibell

Gerry Sibell

Thanks for stopping by. A retired educator, my main focus since retirement has been becoming more serious about photography. My wife and I live in northern Minnesota. Our favorite place to visit and photograph is Yellowstone National Park. My project for the past ten years has been photographing small birds in flight. The most frustrating endeavor I have ever attempted but also the most rewarding. Each day, it seems like a new problem has to be solved with this very difficult kind of photography!
