This is an image of a young eastern bluebird taken in the backyard in northern Minnesota. The three young ones are feeding on their own. They still are together when they flit around the yard. The fourth one, the runt, must not have survived after he left the nest.

Mom is busy on her second brood. I didn't put a camera in the box after the fact, because I didn't want to disturb her. So I'm not sure what's going on in there. Hopefully, the little ones have hatched so they can beat the inclement weather we can get up here in the fall and head south.

Our favorite place to visit and photograph is Yellowstone National Park. My project for the past ten years has been photographing small birds in flight. The most frustrating endeavor I have ever attempted but also the most rewarding. Each day, it seems like a new problem has to be solved with this very difficult kind of photography!
