Artist's Description
This image of a grizzly bear called Scarface was taken at Petrified Tree of Yellowstone National Park in September of 2013. In October, I read that he has been seen in the Canyon area. This ol' boy can still get around for his age! Scarface is 20+ years old. His last collar, the sixth one finally fell off. The people in charge put on a seventh one. One would think it would have been more humane to let this grand old patriarch live the remaining years of his life without having to wear another of these collars! He has contributed more than his share to "science".
About Gerry Sibell
Thanks for stopping by. A retired educator, my main focus since retirement has been becoming more serious about photography. My wife and I live in northern Minnesota. Our favorite place to visit and photograph is Yellowstone National Park. My project for the past ten years has been photographing small birds in flight. The most frustrating endeavor I have ever attempted but also the most rewarding. Each day, it seems like a new problem has to be solved with this very difficult kind of photography! Wonderful image Gerry. I like your comment regarding the collar too.
Gerry Sibell replied:
Thank you, Doris! I wish that just once researchers would ask themselves how much they would like a collar on their neck 24/7.
